“What did I miss?”

The main to things I photograph at night are: 1.lightning, and 2. the International Space Station / Space Shuttle.

Lots of resources on the web for shooting lightning, but for info on when the ISS / Space Shuttle might be whizzing by over your area, check out NASA’s sightings page:

Let me offer another online night photography resource that I’ve found useful – the web site of “The Nocturnes,” the San Francisco Bay Area Night Photography group more or less organized by photographer Tim Baskerville: http://www.thenocturnes.com/

The Nocturnes site includes links to a wide variety of night photography tips and resources and to a lot of fine night photography. The also offer great learning opportunities for budding SF Bay Area night photographers, including their regular full-moon shoots at the historic Mare Island Naval Shipyard.
