@bycostello - Macro lenses usually have this extension "built in" (which is what makes them a macro lens and allows them to focus so much closer), but macro lenses are usually pretty short (100-200mm). And, sometimes it's helpful to use a longer telephoto lens (300mm or longer) to help you isolate your subject against a very specific part of the background. So, in order to fill the frame with your desired composition, sometimes it's necessary to get in pretty close with that long telephoto lens, and these extension tubes help you do that.

Tengo Zeikos Auto Focus Macro Extension Tube for Nikon (12mm, 20mm & 36mm).
I have a Nikon D300 + Nikon TC -17E II teleconverter+ Extension tubes Zeikos 12,24,36 + Nikon 105mm 2.8.
You indicates that the correct order for macrophotos is:
CAMERA + TELECONVERTER+ EXTENSION TUBES ZEIKOS+ NIKON LENS.
But I could not place these items in that order apparently does not fit with teleconverter nikon, but only in this order: CAMERA + EXTENSION TUBES + TELECONVERTER + LENS 105mm 2.8 nikon.
This is incorrect. I could advise on this issue. Thanks a lot at advance. Juan M. Leal. jumileal@gmail.com

Love the 'tubes ... I use the Kenko 36mm with my Nikon cameras/lens and it works fine. No problems with any lens I have used ... 20mm, 50mm, 105mm macro, 18-55mm, 18-200mm, or the 80-400mm (haven't used it with my 12-24mm - for that I use the shorter 12mm tube).

No worries. I have even tried it with my 1.7X converter ...

Nikon and Kenko work fine together as far as I can see over the past dozen years or so I've used them.

Great article. You should write how you attach the extension tube to your camera.
